Post Conference Student Workshops

The KUASA Student Workshops will inspire you and broaden your understanding of the creative industries. Learn practical tips about the business side of design, instructions on how to produce your very own comics title, discover novel ways to manipulate flowing typography or take a moment to ponder over life, world peace & design.

Pick the brains of these top design minds in Asia who host the sessions offering unique insights into their design process & best practices. By setting live and challenging tasks, they will test you to create ideas and intelligent creative solutions. They will also offer you a privileged insight into current trends and their own work.

For each of the workshop, there are only 30 - 60 seats available.

What are the benefits?
All of the workshops will give you an insight into the design industry from a practitioner's point of view. You will gain first hand advice from the people who are setting the standard. Following the workshops hopefully these people will become valuable contacts for you.

Who can sign up?
Registration is open to anyone who has already registered to attend the KUASA conference. And if you are interested in, working in or learning more about design. You do not have to be on a design course, but you should have a strong interest and understanding of the elements of design. If you are unsure whether you are eligible to apply please get in touch.

All workshops run simultaneously, each lasting 4 hours, so interested attendees may only signup online for one workshop each.
So choose well because confirmed registrations are non-transferable. Admin fees will not be refunded for any cancellation or no-show by the registrants.

Sudhir's Work
Learn how strategy precedes design activity and how strategy is used to scope out a project. A design project needs to be well planned, this becomes extremely important for large scale complex projects.

Hands-on:
Students will be taken through a live project environment, scope out case studies and a practical team project challenge.

Work of Genesis Culture
Learn the complete process of how a comics team work to produce comics. From story manuscripts to layout drafts to completed pages, you will get a taste of what happens behind-the-scenes in your favorite comics.

Hands-on:
You will team up with others to take on different roles in the production process to design, develop & produce your own conceptual comics.

This workshop is brought to you by Genesis Culture (www.genesisculture.com), and will be conducted by Ben Wong, Editor of Comixo Studio (www.comixo.com) and prominent manga artist/illustrator, Kid-chan (kidchan.deviantart.com).

Work of Tarek Atrissi
Between the art of classic calligraphy and the contemporary digital type design skills, lies the discipline of lettering, a task often in the hand of graphic designers in the context of Branding, logo design and masthead design. This workshop will focus on the actual word and explore in theory and practice the creative possibilities of lettering. It will open new perspectives for participants in typographic practice, and in revealing some hidden typographic skills they have.

Hands-on:
Each student will work on a typographic exercise involving sketching, designing and finalizing the lettering of a specific word.

Work of Ahn Sang-soo
Ahn Sang-soo is one of the most influential designers and educators in East Asia and his workshops are sought-after all over the world.

Crossing all cultural and ethnic boundaries, Ahn Sang-soo takes you on a journey deep into yourself, helping you discover your sense of self, and the source of your creativity. It will be a long-remembered experience that will change the way you see and perceive things.
